Windows 10/11 · Free · No account needed · Your data stays on your PC
Free
No license fee, no trial clock, no card.
Works offline
No login, no cloud, nothing to expire.
No per-user fees
Built for one professional. No seat pricing, ever.
Never read-only
There is no subscription to lapse and no server to lock you out.
Why people switch to a program they own
The problem
Timeslips moved everyone to a subscription that starts around $550 a year — and if you stop paying, your own billing database goes read-only.
With HourAndBill
HourAndBill is a program you own. Install it and your time entries and invoices stay fully editable forever — there is no renewal, because there is no fee.
The problem
Cloud billing apps charge $49–58 per user, per month. For a solo practice that is $600 or more a year for a timer and an invoice template.
With HourAndBill
HourAndBill is free: unlimited clients, matters, entries and invoices, without a monthly bill. The money stays in your practice.
The problem
Client names, matters and billing details are confidential. Nobody wants them sitting in one more online account.
With HourAndBill
Everything lives in one file on your computer. Back it up like any document. No servers, no data sharing, no password to forget.
Hours, matters and invoices, in one window
Timer and manual entries
Start a timer when the phone rings, or type entries at the end of the day. Both take seconds.
Clients and matters
Organize work the way lawyers and consultants do: each client, each matter or project, with its own rate and history.
Your rates, your rules
Hourly rates per client, per matter or per activity. Flat-fee entries when a job is fixed-price.
Clean PDF invoices
Turn a month of entries into a professional invoice with your details, your numbering and your payment instructions.
Payments and balances
Record what came in, see who still owes what, and carry balances forward without a side spreadsheet.
Reports and CSV export
Billable hours by client, matter and month. Export everything to CSV for your accountant or your own analysis.

Questions people ask
Is HourAndBill really free?
Yes. There is no license fee, no trial period and no card required. We are building HourAndBill in the open with early users, and the program you install is free to use. It keeps working with no renewal, and updates are free too.
Can my data ever go read-only?
No. There is no license server and no renewal to miss. Your time entries, clients and invoices live in a file on your own computer and stay fully editable for as long as you keep the program installed.
Does it do trust or IOLTA accounting?
No, and we say that plainly. HourAndBill is time and billing: hours, matters, invoices, payments. For trust accounting, use your accounting software or your bookkeeper — mixing the two is how mistakes happen.
How do clients pay me?
The invoice is a PDF with your payment instructions on it — bank details, a mailing address for checks, or a payment link from your own processor. HourAndBill records the payment when it arrives; it does not process money itself.
Can I import my existing clients and time entries?
Yes, from CSV files. If your current tool can export clients, matters or time entries to CSV or Excel, HourAndBill can bring them in, so your history stays in one place.
Does it run on a Mac or a phone?
No. HourAndBill is a Windows 10 and 11 program. It is built for professionals who bill from a desktop or laptop and prefer a program to an app.
Can two people use it?
The license covers two of your own computers — for example, office and home. It is built for one professional; there is no shared multi-user database in this version.
What is in the free Early Access Preview?
The preview installs the real program with the main screens — timer, clients and matters, time entries, and the invoice screen — so you can see how it works. Some features are marked as coming in the full version, which will also be free. Preview users hear about updates first.
